Academy Updates

Kids Program Structure
Effective immediately, New Life Jiu-Jitsu Academy has made adjustments to its children’s program to better support focus, structure, and long-term development.

The Academy is no longer enrolling three- and four-year-olds. The beginner class will now serve ages five to seven and function as the foundational program. At younger ages, many children are not yet developmentally ready for a structured class, and attention is often lost quickly, which affects the learning environment as a whole.

Any students under seven—or students at seven who still need foundational work—will train in the five-to-seven class. The older kids class will serve ages seven to thirteen. Students will not be permitted to double up between classes until they demonstrate the maturity, focus, and readiness to do so. Even some students who previously doubled up will remain in the foundational class for now, as this structure better supports proper development.

As part of this restructuring, the Academy has brought in consistent coaches so students can build familiarity and trust. Coaches are selected intentionally to ensure they fit both the students and the culture of the Academy.

These changes are being implemented to ensure the program remains learning-focused and continues to grow in quality. We appreciate everyone’s understanding and support as we move forward.

Instructor Approval is required before registering for any event. These steps are mandatory for eligibility and proper affiliation. See Competition Team Requirements, please contact Professor Kahana if you need assistance.

Competition Registration - Students wishing to compete must follow these steps:
  • Smoothcomp.com create a profile & register under Academy: New Life Jiu-Jitsu Academy - Affiliation: LEAD BJJ.
  • IBJJF.com Obtain a valid membership Team: Bruno Bastos Midland/Team LEAD. (Professor Approval Required)
  • www.jjworldleague.com create a profile and register under New Life BJJ. (Professor Approval Required)
Competition Team Requirements
Competition Team Requirements "Summary"
  • Competition training is an additional program and requires commitment and consistency.
  • Minimum requirement: 3 months of training at the Academy prior to competition.
  • Required attendance: at least 3 classes per week for the full 3-month period.
  • Only Academy training counts—home training or outside training does not apply.
  • Consistent attendance is mandatory; missed or inconsistent training may disqualify a student.
  • Required Academy competition uniform and approved gear must be worn.
  • Registration fees and event memberships are the responsibility of the student or parent.
  • Parents (for youth competitors) are responsible for deadlines, travel, and communication.
  • Students must display proper conduct and sportsmanship at all times.
  • Final approval to compete is the Professors discretion.
